There is this wonderful group of people they call themselves the Friends of Mendon Elders.
Marie Savicki is the president. These folk are looking out for our Mendon Elders.
Friends of Mendon Elders Mission Statement is the purpose of perpetuating the dignity and
independence of elder persons in the town of Mendon, MA, to institute fund raising projects
and locate sources of grants, funding, and contributions for the benefit of elder persons; and
to render financial support to the Mendon Senior Center for items not provided by the town
or Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Their current mission is to get a new van for the Seniors in town.
So what is the van needed for? The van services all seniors in need. They may have a
doctors appointment to get to. They may have to get some shopping done. They may have to
go for different types of treatments. A lot of people don't realize that any one of us may need
the van, as things happen.
The Mendon Senor Center serves meals twice a week and have social gatherings and clinics,
throughout the week, which is most important for our shut-ins.
Why do they need a new van?. Our old van is in poor shape and it is the ONLY
transportation for our wonderful senior residents in need of a ride.
Did I mention it is over 13 years old. Major repair have been done which is very costly.
More repairs are still required.
A new van will cost $50,000 dollars.
What is currently being done? ON April 10th the Friends of Mendon Elders will be holding a
Book Fair. From 9 to 2. If you would like to make any donations you can bring them to the
Senior Center at 62 Providence Street.
All proceeds from the book fair will help fund this wonderful quest.
